How the Ascendant Is Calculated / लग्न की गणना कैसे होती है?

The calculator converts the local birth time to UTC, determines the Julian Day and local sidereal time, calculates the eastern intersection of the ecliptic and the local horizon using the birth latitude, and then applies the same Lahiri-based sidereal conversion used by the Sanatan Tatva Moon and Sun calculators.

In Vedic astrology, the Rising Sign or Ascendant (Lagna) is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. It is an important reference point for a traditional Janma Kundli and house-based interpretation.

Unlike a simple Sun Sign calculation, the Ascendant depends on the local horizon. The geographic latitude and longitude determine the observer's horizon and local sidereal time, so location is essential for calculating the Ascendant.
