The Nakshatra Calculator determines the Janma Nakshatra, also called the birth star, from the Moon's sidereal position at the exact time of birth. The result includes the Nakshatra, Pada, Nakshatra Lord and Moon Sign (Rashi).

How is Janma Nakshatra calculated?

The zodiac is divided into 27 Nakshatras of 13°20′ each. Each Nakshatra is further divided into four Padas of 3°20′. The calculator first determines the Moon's position for the entered UTC time and then applies the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa to obtain the sidereal longitude.

Important: A difference of only a few minutes around a Nakshatra or Pada boundary can change the displayed result. Enter the birth time as accurately as possible and select the correct time zone.
